In the field, I use both classic techniques and the so-called DSLR photo trap, which is a "homemade" setup consisting of a SLR camera, external lights and a motion sensor - I build my photography studio in the middle of the forest, literally...below are pictures taken using this method in my homeland - in the Czech meadows and groves.
